It really wouldn’t be a typical day in the life of a student if he or she weren’t facing any difficulty while trying to attempt an assignment. Assignments like mathematics and other sciences can be done with some difficulty. However, the real problem faced by the students is the writing assignments. They seem easy enough, but once students start doing them, they become the most difficult thing on the planet.
The reason why students consider these writing assignments so difficult is because they have a lot of parts. Take a research paper for example; there is a thesis statement, then there is an abstract, an introduction and a number of other things.
If you are in a situation in which you have to write a thesis statement for your research paper and you don’t know how to do it then you needn’t worry. Just read on to find out a few points that can help you a lot.
Don’t forget to narrow the topic
The thesis statement can be said to be the thing on which the entire research paper hinges. The questions you ask in this statement are the ones that you answer throughout the paper. If the questions are too broad or too many then you are creating a problem for yourself. The rule for choosing the topic for the research paper applies here too; you need to ask the question which narrows the topic so that they can be handled easily later on.
Keep it simple
The simpler the statement is, the better. Instead of stringing several sentences together and creating a terrifying paragraph, you should try to write your research statement in a single sentence. That will make sure that the reader is able to understand it. Not only that, the more complex it is, the more difficult it will be to keep track of what you have answered and what you still have to answer when you will be writing the paper.
Don’t write in first person
You shouldn’t use “I” in your statement. Sentences like “I believe” or “I will prove” aren’t liked by the instructors and the readers. A general statement showing the purpose of the research paper is more than enough.
Get an approval
Make sure that you run your thesis statement by your instructor before you start your research. If there is a need to make any changes, it should be done beforehand.
